A Renaissance Garden in San Quirico D’orcia

Madison Square Park

New York, NY

Patricia McCobb and HM White collaborated on a comprehensive site design for the rehabilitation of one of New York City's first parks, Madison Square Park. The designers developed a series of design principles through historic research and urban context analysis. This process led to a schematic plan that is grounded in the history of the park. The design reinforces the Park's central formal spaces and its surrounding pastoral landscape. A hierarchy of entrances, pathways, and plazas is created through distinct design treatments. This new architectural order minimizes visual clutter and highlights the Park's unique historic character.
